Space and Place

Yale’s intellectual, archival, and digital resources, combined with the accessibility and the rich history of New Haven itself, provide exciting opportunities for projects involving mapping, spatiality, architecture, the built and natural environments, and the power of place in social, cultural, and political organization.  Public Humanities work in this area includes Interactive Crown Street, an ongoing multimedia project devoted to the making and meaning of urban spaces; the development of walking tours and site treatments on New Haven social history; and a collective student exhibition on the history of the New Haven water front.  Institutional partners include the New Haven Museum and Terra Firma Northeast, as well as partnering institutions in the North Eastern Public Humanities Consortium.
