Claudia Calhoun

Currently Tenure-Track in Film Studies, Fairfield University

Calhoun’s current book manuscript is, The Story You Are About to Hear is True, a project that uses the radio and television series Dragnet (1949-59) to show how the police procedural genre served a pedagogical purpose after World War II, bringing Americans into the justice system and instructing them in their role as citizens.  Her second book project looks at narratives of race and integration in U.S. postwar film and television.  She has taught at Bates, Skidmore, and NYU and received research grants from the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in addition to Yale.
