Currently Assistant Professor of US History and the College, University of Chicago, and a faculty affiliate at the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture. Belew specializes in the recent history of the United States, examining the long aftermath of warfare. Her most recent publication is Bring the War Home: The White Power Movement and Paramilitary America(Harvard, 2018), which explores how the power activists wrought a cohesive social movement through a common story about the Vietnam War and its weapons, uniforms, and technologies. She has written essays for Vice, the New York Times,and Slate as well as discussed teaching histories of violence on NPR, CBS News and others. Before teaching at the University of Chicago, she held postdoctoral fellowships from Northwestern University and Rutgers University.
