Yale Opportunities and Internships

Here is a partial list of opportunities and internships.  We will continue to update this list regularly as we learn of new opportunities and internships on and off campus.

The Yale Review

Reader Program

  • We are excited to announce that The Yale Review now has a “reader program” for undergraduate and graduate students who are curious about literary journalism, the world of public writing, and publishing more broadly. The position is unpaid, but in exchange for reading submissions for 1-3 hours a week (and one hour is fine), editors at the Review help train students in an array of skills (fact-checking, social media, headline writing) and bring them curated professional development programming that is available only to our staff.  We also host a workshop/AMA/feedback session for students interested in making a life as writers with James Surowiecki (formerly The New Yorker and VICE News Tonight) and Meghan O’Rourke (editor of TYR, formerly Slate, The New Yorker, The Paris Review). Previous visitors have included Henry Finder, editorial director of The New Yorker; Aria Velasquez, former head of social media at Slate). This year’s visitors include novelist, critic, and Harvard Professor Namwali Serpell; NBA-nominated novelist Katie Kitamura; research editors from The Atlantic; Pushkin podcasts director Jacob Weisberg, and many more. In this role, students read submissions, attend editorial meetings as they desire, and help make a rapidly changing and growing literary magazine. Many of our readers become next year’s paid interns. (This role is a job, with a steeper time commitment.)  Interested students should send a brief email of interest and a resume if they have one to David de Leon and Maggie Millner at david.deleon@yale.edu and maggie.millner@yale.edu by Monday, September 27.
